New Technology Breakthroughs offer “Brighter” Hope for Today and Tomorrow!
Several years ago, Jan and I left the house to go to Sunday Morning Worship at PWCC. As always, I set the home security alarm. Nothing dramatic was evident until I arrived at the church. I looked at the bulletin and it was a big blur. I gave it to the person behind me and asked, “Is something wrong with this bulletin?” The reply was, “No, Dr. Ed, it is fine.” It was then we knew I was in serious trouble with my sight.
Monday morning I had an emergency appointment with a retina specialist and received the alarming message that I had a massive hemorrhage behind the retina in my right eye. Not long afterward, it was followed by a second hemorrhage. Vision in my left eye was already badly damaged by macular degeneration. Being an avid reader, especially the Bible, I was extremely concerned and disappointed that I could no longer see to read.
Recently I received a call from Pastor Bruce that one of our dear members, Liz Pierce, had spoken to him about a powerful new and self-contained reading instrument. It belonged to her husband, Charley, who was totally blind. After his recent death, Liz wanted to share it with someone. Pastor Bruce told Liz about my vision challenges and she invited him to bring me over to see it. I was amazed and thrilled to see how exciting and efficient this reader is. It is so simple to operate that people of all ages, older to even children, can use it right out of the box. No computer knowledge is required.
It is called the Eye-Pal SOLO (reader). It enhances independence, enriches lives and enables productivity. Just take it out of the box, plug it in and place the printed document on it. The reading begins with a wave of the hand. It will quickly and easily read pages of books, newspapers, mail, tablets, bills, directions, even text on a crumpled piece of paper. This is a wonderful answer to prayer for many of us who are vision impaired. The manufacturer wrote “we put more into the Eye-Pal SOLO so that you’ll get more out of it.”
There are many breakthroughs happening for the blind and vision impaired.
My Ophthalmologist, Dr. Benjamin Bakall, M.D., Ph.D., keeps me informed at each appointment of great progress being made in this important field. Dr. Bakall has a passion for answers and treatment for complicated eye diseases and is part of a national research team with breakthroughs happening in the field of macular degeneration, glaucoma and other serious eye problems. If you have eye problems, there is new hope for us through advanced research and amazing technology. I am now inspired to be more aggressive in looking for new developments with a prayer that I can share them with others.
I am deeply grateful to Pastor Bruce for thinking of me and taking me to meet with Liz Pierce. I was very excited the moment I saw the equipment and learned to operate it in just a few minutes. I was thrilled when she presented me with this exciting and remarkable gift to bring home. It is an answer to my prayers for help with reading. I am using it every day! God bless you, Liz, and thank you for the generous gift.
